Why You Should Have Lunch with Your Mom Today

If you're lucky enough to have your mom in your life, spend a little more time with her today.

About a month or so ago, one of my really good friend's mother passed.  It was unexpected, sudden, sad.  Though it was my friend's mom, the moment was pretty intense for me, as well.  She was 14 years younger than my mom, which was kind of scary to think about.  The way life works is kind of strange.  Kind of unpredictable.  Kind of uncertain.  The things that seem routine can all of a sudden change for the worst.  All of this made me wonder if I was spending enough time with my own mom.  Have I been doing the best I could to keep in touch and be present?  For those of us lucky enough to have our mothers in our lives, we need to make sure we never have to ask those questions.

Take your mom out to lunch today.  Sure, Mother's Day is only a few days away, but in the same way that you shouldn't wait until Valentine's Day to take your significant other on a date, you shouldn't wait for a holiday to show your mom how much you love her.  If you're not hungry, go out for coffee.  If you don't like coffee, go for a walk in the park.  If you're in a different city, drive to see her.  If you're in a different state, give her a call.  Do something.  Do anything.

Are you satisfied with your relationships with the people you love?  If today was the last day you could talk to them, would you regret not spending more time with them?  When you have the chance to tell them how important they are to you or how much you love them, do it.  You may have said it a million times.  Say it again.  Tomorrow isn't promised to anyone.  You never know what the morning may bring.  This Mother's Day, think of ways to replicate what you're going to do with your mom on the days society doesn’t tell you that you have to do something.  Make sure you never have to ask yourself if you're doing enough.  Take joy in the little things life has to offer.  Treat every day like it's Mother's Day.
